"I studied and lived in England for two years and Jordan and I were in a band together called Hexed Hands. We played a lot of clubs, pubs, and dives around northern England together. This meant opening for anarchist ska punk bands, witnessing fist fights going on as you’re playing, and seeing buildings part of the Factory Records legacy turned into yuppie apartment complexes. After I moved back to the states, we still kept in touch and Jordan would send me demos that he had constructed with some app on his phone since I don’t think he has a working computer at the moment. One of the recent ones he sent me was a track called PNKLKR, which I’m told is ‘Pink-Licker’ written out in the trendy sans vowels format that is popular now. If you think it is an allusion to something dirty, you’re probably right. I first thought it was painkiller but then it is missing an L and doesn’t have two K’s. Painkilker?
Anyway, I really liked the beat in the beginning and he had been asking me to sing over his songs for a while now so I decided to sample the part I liked and construct a song around it on an impulsive whim. The lyrics were freestyled and possibly some of the most simple writing I’ve done in a while. It was a good exercise in trying to finish something all in one day and trying not to kick yourself or cringe too hard when you hear all the little mistakes. The weather is heating up, people are acting crazy and sometimes you just want a simple upbeat song." -Jahn
